Provincial government increases support to Ireland
Business Partnerships (November 1, 2004)
Premier Danny Williams and Innovation, Trade and Rural
Development Minister Kathy Dunderdale announced actions to
further strengthen Newfoundland and Labrador’s relationship
with Ireland through increased support to the Ireland
Business Partnerships (IBP).

Official visit to Ireland in July 2004
Danny Williams,
Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, confirmed the
province’s commitment to strengthening relationships with
Ireland through the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding
(MOU) re-affirmation with the Irish government. The trip
resulted from an invitation which Taoiseach Bertie Ahern
extended to Premier Williams while at a state dinner hosted
by Prime Minister Martin. Premier Williams and Taoiseach
Ahern re-signed the MOU in a ceremony in Dublin. Also
present at the ceremony was Newfoundland and Labrador’s
Minister of Innovation, Trade and Rural Development, Kathy
Dunderdale. News

Second Ireland/Newfoundland and Labrador Conference
(March 30 - 31, 2004)
"Joint Explorations in Heritage & the Arts: Travel and
Tourism Contexts" was the most recent Ireland/Newfoundland
and Labrador Conference held at the Waterford Institute of
Technology in Waterford, Ireland. Colin Maddock of the IBP
was one of the many speakers at this 2 day event. He spoke
on "The Marketing of Cultural Festivals and Heritage Events"
and "There to Here and Back: Travel Logistics". This
conference explored shared and diverse traditions and
practices, as well as strategies in the promotion of culture
and the arts in both Newfoundland and Labrador and Ireland.

Meets Irish Prime Minister (March 18, 2004)
Premier Danny Williams met Irish Prime Minister Bertie
Ahern for the first time on March 18 at a dinner hosted by
Prime Minister Paul Martin. One discussion between the two
was the relationship between Newfoundland and Labrador and
Ireland. If you would like to read a statement issued by
