2008/2009
The Ireland Business Partnership is pleased to welcome Ms. Diane Hooper, in her new role as Executive Director of Ireland Business Partnerships,. The Newfoundland and Labrador Premier, Hon. Danny Williams, appointed Diane Hooper to the position on the 9 March 2009. Ms. Hooper brings to the partnership her experience in economic development and international trade, along with knowledge of Newfoundland's innovation and advanced technology sector. IBP is looking forward to the contributions that Ms. Hooper has to offer to the organization. Biography Diane Hooper has been employed with the Department of Innovation, Trade and Rural Development for 10 years. In her most recent position as Director of Innovation, Research and Technology (2005-2009), she promoted the development of advanced technology sectors such as life sciences, aerospace and defense and ocean technology. Previously, as Industry Development Officer (1999-2005) with the department, her work focused primarily on international trade with New England and Ireland. Before joining the Provincial Government, Ms. Hooper worked as business planning consultant with Power Marketing and Communications in Clarke’s Beach, and prior to that as international marketing manager with CORETEC Inc. in St. John’s. Ms. Hooper has a Bachelor of Science (Honours) and a Master of Business Administration from Memorial University.
2006/2007
On August 30, 2007, it was announced that Patrick G. Binns would become the new Ambassador to Ireland. Patrick G. Binns (BA [Economics and Political Science], University of Alberta, 1969; MA [Community Development], University of Alberta, 1971) first worked in northern Alberta as a community development officer. In 1972, he began work for the Prince Edward Island Rural Development Council. He served in P.E.I.’s Public Service from 1974 to 1978 and was a recipient of the Queen’s Silver Jubilee Medal for Outstanding Public Service. From 1978 to 1984, he served in P.E.I.’s provincial legislature and held many Cabinet portfolios. From 1984 to 1988, he was the member of Parliament for Cardigan and served as a parliamentary secretary. From 1988 to 1996, he was President of Island Bean Limited and Pat Binns and Associates. He became leader of the Progressive Conservative Party of P.E.I. and the 30th premier in 1996. Mr. Binns’ government was re-elected for two more terms. During his 11 years in this role, Mr. Binns established the P.E.I. Cancer Treatment Centre, founded and led Team Atlantic Trade Missions abroad and promoted the bio-science industry. Mr. Binns and his wife, Carol, have four adult children, Rob, Mark, Brad and Lilly. Patrick Binns succeeds Christopher Westdal.
